Unique Downspout Debris Collector

Jim Hurtado, owner of Danisa’s Group, LLC”, a Design/Build company” based in Fanwood, has been granted a patent (US7,919,002 B1, April 5, 2011) for a debris trap, which is an easy-to-use and cost effective solution to the problems caused by stormwater runoffs and complies with the NJ BMP standards dated February 2004.

Most commercial & residential buildings have rainwater collection systems that consist of leaders and gutters that are connected to drain pipes that channel the water away from the structure into a dry well.  A substantial add-on is a debris trap with an overflow port attached to the leader at waist height to collect leaves and other materials. The debris can be easily discarded by emptying the built-in strainer. When a dry well becomes saturated, water will back up through the leader causing an overflow into the building thereby creating erosion.  The function of the overflow port is to divert water from the drain pipe away from the foundation.
